RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

The religious dimension of the Catholic school

is its identity and mission, always founded in the

person of Jesus Christ as it comes to us

through the Good News.

- Horizons of Hope [Religious Dimension]

Religious Education is at the centre of both the formal and informal interactions of St Mary’s School’s community. The school has a visible Catholic symbolic culture and active sacramental and liturgical practices.

Daily prayer and whole school liturgical celebrations promote connection to self, others and faith.

Learning design in Religious Education enables students explain, interpret and reflect across the three strands:

  • Knowledge and Understanding

  • Reasoning and Responding

  • Personal and Communal Engagement

These strands are embedded within each content area:

  • Scripture and Jesus

  • Church and Community

  • Prayer, Liturgy and Sacraments

  • Morality and Justice

  • God, Religion and Life

Students in Years 3, 4 and 6 participate in a school-based Sacramental Program in readiness for the celebration of Sacraments:

  • Reconciliation (Year 3)

  • First Eucharist (Year 4) and (Year 5, 2021)

  • Confirmation (Year 6)
